Punta Nueva: A Visionary New District for Lima’s Growth and Sustainability.

Masterplanning

Outline Masterplan

Urban Initiatives was commissioned by Punta Nueva, SA to design a concept masterplan for a 600-hectare site located to the south of Lima, creating a vibrant and sustainable district to meet the city’s growing demand for housing, infrastructure, and public amenities. The plan will transform a desert landscape into a dynamic urban environment, offering a balanced mix of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces. Designed to accommodate up to 200,000 people, the district will focus on creating walkable, compact communities that prioritise green spaces, public facilities, and connected infrastructure.

At the heart of the development will be a new sub-centre for Lima, acting as the central hub for the broader 60 km² southern expansion zone. This area will feature key amenities: a shopping centre, a commercial quarter and a diverse range of education, culture, and leisure facilities. These are designed to support both the new residents and the surrounding communities. The district will be well-connected to Lima through the extension of Metro Line 1, ensuring seamless access to the city centre and enhancing its integration within the broader urban environment.

The Punta Nueva masterplan aims to provide a sustainable, well-designed urban expansion that balances economic growth, environmental responsibility, and community well-being. Focusing on compact, pedestrian-friendly neighbourhoods, integrated public transport, and green infrastructure, the project will serve as a model for future urban developments. Punta Nueva will not only enhance Lima’s urban landscape but also help position the city as a forward-thinking, sustainable capital for the future.
